Do not separate text from historical background. If you do, you will have perverted and subverted the Constitution, which can only end in a distorted, bastardized form of illegitimate government.

I believe there are more instances of the abridgement of freedom of the people by gradual and silent encroachments by those in power than by violent and sudden usurpations.

It will be of little avail to the people that the laws are made by men of their own choice if the laws be so voluminous that they cannot be read, or so incoherent that they cannot be understood.

The Constitution preserves the advantage of being armed which Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation where the governments are afraid to trust the people with arms.

Purged.

Enemy of the state, Acton Gorton, Editor in Chief of the Daily Illini, has been deemed an enemy of the Revolution. Provocateur Acton Gorton has been purged from the Daily Illini by e-mail.

His crime against the People? Publishing Muhammad cartoons.

Thankfully, the Commissars at the Daily Illini have removed this imperialist agitator and the Revolution shall proceed as planned. The Commissars have even gone so far as to remove the cartoons and any evidence of their existence (including a request to the comrades at Google to remove the cache of original cartoons). Revisionist history on display for all to see--then not. The Memory Hole is working hard today. Somewhere, Stalin is clapping enthusiastically.

Enemy of the People Acton Gorton was never the Editor in Chief. The Muhammed cartoons were never published. Oceania has always been at war with Eurasia. Ignorance is strength.

Thanks to Instapundit for getting the word out.
